About me

 

The budding journo in me is trying to find a platform to discuss with fellow citizen members, how ordinary citizens can participate in the media and how the media can be made accessible to grassroots areas and people. I’m Sinethemba Makhasi, a Post-graduate student in Journalism and media studies at Rhodes university….and I’m interested in development and citizen journalism.

My interests in citizen journalism stem from the belief that the media shoud also be a platform where non-media workers- that is ordinary citizens- can tell stories that are of public interest to them…without being restricted by gatekeeping. Off couse , I’m also exploring how this can be a reality, especially in South Africa where social class divisions are so evident… and how citizen journalism can be made a reality in grassroot areas.
